Aquarium Heaters
Aquarium heaters by Rena France were some of first automatic submersible heaters produced for the serious aquarium hobbyist. The RenaCal series of aquarium heaters introduced in the late 90's continues to offer superior
thermal accuracy with the innovative use of direct thermal diffusion coupled with a 500-micron solid siver contact
thermostat. Direct thermal diffusion allows the heating coil to actually touch the special heat-tempered glass
tube. This method of heating rapidly transfers the heat energy to the water. Many aquarium heaters must heat the
air in the tube first, which in turn heats the glass tube. This system is much less efficient and more difficult
for the thermostat to accurately sense changes in the water temperature.
Contact thermostats have been used for many years to control aquarium heaters. The basic principal is to use
a switch that turns the heating coil on and off. The switch senses temperature changes and opens and closes the
contacts which turns the heating coil on and off. These switches vary widely in quality and calibration hence the
wide differences in the ability of less expensive heaters to accurately control the water temperature in the aquarium.
There are two major features of the RenaCal thermostat that insure accurate temperature control. First, each thermostat
is manufactured at the factory, calibrated by computer and tested in water for accuracy. Secondly, the 500-micron
solid silver thermostat contacts eliminate contact welding that causes overheating.
The RenaCal Basic features a positive click dial that adjusts the temperature one degree at a time. Easy to
view power indicator light, oversized suction cups for mounting horizontally or vertically, fully submersible with
triple seals and a 6 foot cord, the RenaCal Basic provides all the features the serious hobbyist needs. The RenaCal
Excel has all the great features of the Basic model with the added convenience of a lighted control dial that can
be viewed from the top or side.
