Best filter media setup for XP3?

by B
(Philly)

I've been running an XP3 in an 75 gallon tank, one oscar one jack dempsey and two silver dollar's. I'm wondering if there is a more lasting setup for the filter media. Why is the carbon on the top as opposed to the bottom? The way it says to set the media in the guide, it seems to me that the carbon gets the bulk of the particals while the foam pads get the least.
Would it be more efficient to have the carbon on the bottom not getting the bulk partials first, place the 20 & 30 foam pads on top, ceramic star things in the middle and carbon on the bottom? Is it more of a trial and error deal, or would that cause problems?

A: First, the filter is an upflow filter so this is why the stacking order is the way it is. You might want to visit Planet Rena and look at the Filstar XP page that explains this.
