Can I use multiple SmartHeaters with an XP4?

by Clay
(Regina, SK, Canada)

I have a 170 Gal tank and need a new canister filter. I like the XP4 and would like to implement the SmartHeater with the filter. Can I attach multiple SmartHeater's inline to meet the heating needs of my tank. The 300 watt model supports up to 90 gallons, so I would like to use two inline if possible. Thanks for the information.

A: Yes. The second unit will probably be mounted near the outlet of the filter so water will flow over and around the heater. This helps in dispersing the heat for even temperature. The question is more about the amount of heat you need. In my experience 2-3 watts per gallon is about right if you have lights and the tank is located in a heated area.
