Can I use the XP3 as a supplemental sump pump?

I am curious if the XP3 is able to run dry in the event the water stopped flowing to my sump tank. I want to put my skimmer in the sump because it puts out a ton of microbubbles. If the microbubbles went through the XP3 they would come out crystal clear, right? Any info will help, thanks!!

A: If the motor runs dry for an extended period of time it will damage the motor and rotor/impeller and shorten the life of the filter. Also, bubbles sucked up into the filter will all cause the motor to run hot and shorten the life.
