Can you convert a xp2 to a xp4?

by Ursula Vaillancourt
(Tupper Lake, NY, USA)

I have a 55 gal tanks with goldies in it. The GAB forum said that my filter is too small for what I have because of the goldies. They suggested a Rena xp4.

I have only had the Rena xp2 since the end of march and that is what the pet store originally recommended. I didn't really want to have to go out and start from scratch.

Can I add onto my rena xp2 to make it an xp4?

A: Although the motor will fit an XP4 canister you would also have to have an XP4 motor and rotor. Those parts would cost about the same as a new filter. You might try selling your old filter or keeping it for backup if you take your new filter down for maintenance.
