Do I fill both tubes with water?

When you set the tank up the first time, do you fill the both tubes before turning it on or do you just fill the gray income tube?

I also have a question on if I also should fill the rena filstar box before starting the filter
A: No you don't fill the canister or the outlet tube. The best advice I can give you it to get a copy of the manual and see the setup video at Mars Fishcare.
