filstar xp just stopped

My filter just went from working to not working. I've had trouble with it after cleaning it for quite awhile. It doesn't want to push water after it has been cleaned. I have to monkey around with it for a little while and then it will work. But now it just stopped. I have not cleaned it and restarted it, like normal. It just stopped while I was doing my dishes and I heard it hum and then quit. It is on a half full 75 gal turtle tank with 2 red ear sliders. Did the motor give out??? It is aprox 4 years old. My email is smsmith@mac.com. I am on a friends computer.

A: After four years on a turtle tank you might want to cosider doing some major repairs on the motor. Motors have a thermal overload safety switch on them that shuts off the motor if it overheats. Motors will overheat if they are starved for water. You can see a short video on replacing the rotor/impeller here. If
the motor has been burned up you should consider either a new filter or replace the complete motor assembly. You can find these parts in the
Planet Rena Store.
