Filstar XP1 Filter not working

Last week, my turtle knocked off the intake pipe of my filter (before this it had been working well for a few months). I was away for the day, so the filter was likely sucking up air for many hours. When I got home I re-attached the pipe, filled everything with water, plugged it in-- and nothing happened. There was just a faint buzzing sound. When I examined the motor, I noticed the rotor/impeller started spinning when plugged in, but it would not work when I put on the impeller cover. I even tried starting it up without the cover, but this also did not work. If I leave it plugged in, I just hear the buzzing noise, and the cover starts to feel warm. Is there anything I can do to fix this?? Thank you.

A: It sounds like the motor has not been damaged but the filter is not priming correctly. The first thing I would do is review the Q&A's already posted in the performance section. I think there are several that cover similar issues. Second, I would review the video at Mars Fishcare regarding the proper setup and restart of the filter which might tell why the filter is not priming properly.
