getting intermitent bubbles out the outtake pipe.saltwater

by Kevin Thompson
(San Clemente, California)

i have a 65 gallon saltwater tank and have a xp3. i have been getting bubbles out the filtered water pipe since i bought it brand new about 5 months ago. i have checked all the seals disassembled pump and cleaned out , with no improvement. i usually dont see the bubbles until the end of my light cycle, which is set for about 9.5 hours. my water temp is usually about 76-80 degrees F. i am running a charcoal media, phosphate media, bio stars and ceramic cylinders for bio filtration. i do have an airstone positioned about 12 inches away from the intake. all hose connections are tight and have no water leaks. the quick disconnect o rings and all other seals are original.

A: It is possible that some air is being sucked into the system from the air stone. It is more likely that air is leaking into the system from the quick-disconnect.  Sometimes these do not seat properly or the oring on the ends of the qd inlet and outlet extensions are not sealing.
