How do I do properly maintain the filter?

A: The best advice I can give you is to get a copy of the manual and see the video at Mars Fishcare. They are the manufacturer of the Rena Filstar XP Canister Filter. Also, look around in the FAQ section of PlanetRena and you'll also find good information on setup and maintenance.
