How do you clean the clear tubing on the xp4?

Hi, I was wondering the proper way to clean the tubing since it is permanently clamped on to the connectors. This is my first canister filter, and I am finding it very complicated. It does not prime after water changes,is very noisy when I start it back up,and sometimes sounds as if it is cycling on and off(straining?). My main question though is how to clean the tubing. I can see it is getting discolored(only 2 months old), but because it is clamped on, what do you do? I can not believe we are expected to buy new tubing all the time. How do you get those black clamps off(adjustable would be better)? I did see that someone asked that question, but the answer said to not clamp the hoses on so tightly. In the initial setup manual it said to do just that to avoid leaking. Even if the tubing could be removed, how do you clean such a long tube?(bleach??). Thank you
A: Canister filters are more complicated. But the Rena Filstar is about as easy as it gets. First, the clamps can be reused and removed very easily just by twisting where the two sides come together. One side will go up the other down and the clamp will unlock. As for cleaning the tubing about all you can do is run a small cloth or towell attached to a string with a weight attached. Drop it down the tube and pull the towell through the tube to clean. The other problems you mention are covered in the FAQ section of the site. Most are related to your setup or possibly some type of defective component.
