how do you clean XP2 and how often?

My XP2 has been running well for about 3 months. About how often do I clean or maintain it, and how is it cleaned?

A: There is a lot of information on cleaning the filter at the Mars Fishcare web site. How often depends on the setup but the manual recommends monthly.
