How often do I clean my Rena 4?

by Deb
(Mount Pleasant, SC)

I need your help.

I have a 120 gallon fresh water aquarium with about 75 cardinal tetras and five madagascar lace plants. I have been rinsing out the Chemi Pure Elite, the smooth bioballs, and the ceramic rings weekly with my water changes. I also replace the top micro-filter pad weekly. The result of this process has made me question whether or not I am cleaning too much as there is hardly anything dirty except for the top pad.

Again, what are your recommendations for me? Will the top pad plug up and reduce the flow which has been my experience with other canister filters not made by you?

Thank you very much.
A: You have a customized Rena Filter and should contact the company where you purchased the item or the manufacturer, Mars Fishcare, directly. The filter materials you mentioned are not Rena or API brand products. This is why I have no way of knowing how often you should change these items. We only offer support for Rena and API products.
