I can't push down lever on top of canister for the Rena Filstar XP

it feels like theres pressure or something but it wont let me push lever down
A: The quick-disconnect can be stubborn at times. The keys that release the handle locks inside the QD can sometimes wear. If the filter is relatively new then the best method is to pull the QD out and reset in the unit. Then push on the rear portion of the QD while pulling the handle forward. This will usually allow the handle to go down.

Opposite Problem
by: James

I actually cannot get mine to release, I have had mine for over a year, and do a cleaning every 5 months as I do not have media other then Bio balls and filter pads. I have a hang on that I use for the chemical filtration. However I now cannot get the quick-disconnect to allow me to open and remove it. The lever lifts up but I do not think it is going all the way, the manual says to gentle lift up by lever once lever is in the upright position to release. Well unfortunately that is not happening and I feel if I pull the lever back more I am going to snap it off. I ended up having to pull all the hosing out of the tank detach it from the intact and output portions of the quick-disconnect(point of which is to prevent you from having to remove the hoses and having to refill the intake hose again when you do maintenance) then take it to the sink and open it up. I removed the 4 screws from the impeller hosing but the two piece would not come apart because the quick-disconnect was still in place. If I could get some ideas on how to resolve this issue that would be great.
A: Two-things, First, some QD's will become so encrusted with alage and minerals that after 5 months it may just be "glued" to the top. Second, some levers need to be pulled back just a little more to release the locks. Pull back with enough force to move lever all the way back without breaking it.
