Is opaque tubing available?

by Paul
(Earlysville, VA)

I have a Rena Filstar xP2 filter, and it works great. My problem is with the tubing. It is routed such that it is exposed to sunlight. This results in algae forming in the tubing between the filter and the tank. It eventually gets so thick that it restricts the flow. It is not easy to clear the tubing. Is there an opaque tubing available? A local retail store uses a ribbed black tubing that I would expect would do the trick. My concern is that the tubing walls may be too thick. Does Rena have other tubing options?

A: Rena makes no other tubing for the Filstar XP than what is supplied. I think if you can get something in 5/8" ID you may be able to solve your problem. 5/8' ID is the closest to the 21mm of the standard Filstar XP tubing. Some people have been very happy with 5/8" vinyl tubing in black and others have told us that it is difficult to get a good seal.
