It was working fine, then one day the water flow began to push out at different speeds, and eventually the flow stops completely and there is a whirring sound from the motor.

(Columbus, OH)

I believe I have an XP2 (There is three levels in the filter, 1. 4 sponges, 2. media, 3. black/white pad. It is in a 75 gallon tank with sand, though there is a rock barrier around the inlet. I have it hooked up to filter through a heater. The outlet is the one with the 5 holes. I've never had any problems with the filter. I clean it regularly as suggested, usually once a month or more often if the tank dirties faster. This problem arose in the middle of the day. The filter was running completely fine, then it the water just started coming out in spurts. It slows down, then pushes out hard, then slows down, etc. Eventually, the flow stops completely and there is a whirring sound in the motor. I took everything apart, cleaned every tube to insure there weren't any shell sheddings blocking the passage. I primed it, let the air run out, insured every connection was air tight. I took off the spray nozzle and just let the water flow freely, and you can physically see the change in amount of water flow. I've basically done everything besides disassembling the motor. The filter is less than a year old, and I didn't want to take apart the motor assembly without knowing I absolutely had to. I have called your help line and left messages numerous times, and no one has called me back. Up until that point, I had been rather satisfied with the product.
A: We will post this question and maybe someone will offer some additional help. But, you need to contact the manufacturer, Mars Fishcare, directly. If you called 800-847-0659 then you called the manufacturer.

This Q&A section is operated by Planet Rena and we are not part of Mars Fishcare. I can tell you that this type question has been answered many times in the Q&A section under performance. It generally revolves around a priming problem or something is blocking the flow through the system.
