Max head hight

by Donna
(NY)

I am looking to use this on what is to be a 30" tall aquarium. From the floor to the top of the aquariumis aprox 5'. Will this decrease the GPH on the xp3 or xp4?

A: In a standard setup, flow decreases with head as the motor works harder to lift the water. But in a filter setup where the water is siphoned from the aquarium via gravity you place less load on the motor so pumping height is not a factor until you get above the maximum setup height (55 inches) listed in the manual. Flow will decrease as filters clog so you might want to go with the larger filter and turn it down if the flow is too large in the beginning and then open the valve as the filter clog to maintain the higher flow rate until the filter is cleaned.
