Poor Circulation XP3 , Performance Nowhere Near when Unit was New ...

by Brian
(Hillsburgh, Ontario, Canada)

Hi Planet Rena,
Hope All is well ??? My Rena Filstar XP3 is about 3 -4 years or so old now and the Flow rate, Ability to clean the tank properly has diminished considerably ... So I Spoke to one of your Service people Today about it and He suggested that I Replace the Impeller & Rotor, Bearing, Etc. Which should solve the problem A.S.A.P. and Return My Flow Rate ... Which I did and it Seems to be the Same Flow Rate , Not much change at all ... When the Unit was new it shot the Water pretty much clear across my 120 gallon tank with ease ... Wicked Circulation, Crystal Clean Tank and Now it is a Much Softer Flow more or less just enough to make the plant move and that is it ... Is it Time for a New Motor, Total New Pump or ??? Just Don't want to Sink Hundreds of $$$ into a Older Filter System that could be replaced for the cost of the parts to repair ...
I have been losing Fish Weekly and sometimes daily as I Feel this Filter just does not do the job it used to ... Filtration is HUGE !!!
When the Unit was new it worked great, Guess Nothing lasts forever... Any Suggestions ??? It was suggested to me that I should switch to a Fluval FX5 for My style of Tank ... 2'h x 2'w x 4'l 120 Gallons ... Does this make any sense as well ???
Thanks for any guidance,,,
Brian
