Rena XP2 motor

by Amanda
(Seattle)

Hi, I've been on the phone back and forth with Rena, but since I'm on the west coast, and with the hours I work, I've only been able to actually talk to someone twice. My Rena XP2 filter, which I purchased about 8 months ago, has had various problems that I have all been able to troubleshoot and fix. However, about a month ago it stopped working completely and I don't hear anything from the motor. When I have the lid off by itself, to check the rotor/impeller, it runs smoothly for a few seconds, then starts bouncing back and forth. Following the advice from a post here, I purchased another impeller cover in case it was not fitting tightly. That didn't work. Tonight I took everything out of the baskets and ran it empty, on the slight chance that might work, but it didn't. I have talked to Rena about sending it back through the warranty. So now my problem is that I have searched for my purchase receipt and I can't find it. Is there any way I can prove my purchase so I can send it back through the warranty? I have my bank statement showing Petsmart, but of course that doesn't say what I purchased. My other question is there anything else I can do or try to get my filter working? I'm really hoping to avoid having to purchase my own motor since this is still a fairly new filter.
Thanks, Amanda

A: Since our company, Planet Rena, is a private company that is not part of the Mars Fishcare organization we really have no way of helping you with a warranty issue. However, replacing the motor if the impeller spins at all means the motor is fine. You could have something wrong with the rotor/impeller or perhaps the new impeller cover is causing the rotor/impeller to bind.
