rotor impeller needs replacing?

by Jason
(Oakdale, MN)

after a power surge, my xp2 stopped working, the impeller that is. cause I could still feel the humming sound from the motor. took it apart and saw that the impeller is trying to turn. it'll turn but with a rattling sound and not as strong as before, plus it'll stop again, and i'll have to manually help it turn, do i just need to replace the impeller? could it be a bad magnet, or is it the motor?

A: One power surge does not generally kill a rotor but if the rotor is more than 3 or 4 years old you would probably benefit by replacing it. Click here to purchase a rotor.

Also, the best test for a rotor/impeller is the start-up test. The motor must be intact and by that I mean you have to have the impeller cover on for a good test of a motor. Just plug it in and then unplug it. If the rotor turns without hesitation, that is good. Do this about 10 times and if it starts every time you are good to go. It does not mean the magnet strength is as good as a new one but this test usually indicates if a rotor is about die on you.

rotor test
by: Jason A Yang

So it was the rotor. i needed a new release valve, so i ended up buying a used xp2 for $70 on craigslist for mainly parts, and tried the rotor, it worked on my xp2. i test both rotors on a metal area, and the one that wasn't working had really no magnet power, compared to the one that was working which stuck to the metal plate really good, so fellows if determining if you had a bad rotor do the magnet test, if it starts to slide down the plate than it's time for a new rotor.
that power surge must of demagnetised my rotor since it was working just fine before it, and not to mention it blow up all my computer cords, printers modem and all, just the power cords though.

would it be okay to do this test on a dry run, or would it have to be tested with water, since rena says that the rotor needs the water to lubricate the turing.

A: we are talking about 2 seconds on (at most)during each test. It might squeal or rattle but if it starts 10 times in a row I thing you will OK. If it starts but pumps much less water than it did then I would only replace it then.
