"up to 70 gallon" filter - is it good for a 37 gallon tank

by Gavriloiu Antoniu Eugen
(Montreal, Quebec, Canada)

I have a 37 gallon tank and have bought a nice 2 shelves filter that can accommodate up to 70 gallons. The debit is around 1113 liters per hour.
I have just bought the aquarium and I have it in a cycling phase.
Is this filter too much for my aquarium? The water seems to be flowing rapidly ..maybe to rapid for the tank size.
Also the only fish I got (a catfish) seems to not like it at all...it stays under the rocks or plants and only gets out shortly when i stop the filter to feed it.

A: Yes it sounds fine. You can reduce the force of the flow two ways, by using the spray bar instead of the power jet and/or using the control valve on the output to reduce flow to either the power jet or spraybar.
