Water is now cloudy

by Jerry
(Clarksburg, MD)

I just set up a new 125 gallon freshwater tank and using two XP3 filters, the tank is 72 inches. I let the tank set up for 48 hours before moving my fish over to the new tank. For 24 hours the tank was perfectly clear and the fish were happy. I woke up this morning and the water was very cloudy, I reprimed the pumps and it seemed to help clear the water up some. I just rechecked the tank and it is cloudy again and one of the fish was at the bottom of the tank almost dead. Any ideas what is going on?

A: Most likely you have "new tank syndrome". This is covered in the other sections of the Q&A's so read up on it for more information. You should test your water though to make sure you don't have any ammonia floating around which will really hurt your fish.
