Water seems to bypass lower basket

by Mr Piers Carter
(UK)

Hi I have a XP2 (4 or 5 years old) the flow rate is fine but when I come to clean it (about the last 5 or 6 times) the original coarse and fine sponge filters in the lower basket are clean and the only sign of debris appears on the underside of the upper basket which had a fine filter then ceramic beads then a fine filter and last charcoal and another fine filter. It looks like the water is completely bypassing the lower basket. I have taken great care when putting the filter baskets back in after cleaning making sure there is no debris between the baskets, and they look as though they are pressed right up against one another just as always. do you have any ideas what might be causing this ?

thanks

Piers

A: Since your setup is different than comes from the factory and your filter is old it could be a number of things. The rotor/impeller may have lost some strength, some water may be bypassing the filter media, the baskets may be leaking between the stack. The best place to get an answer to this question is from your local dealer. Otherwise, you can also contact the manufacturer, Mars Fishcare, directly.
