What is the best set up to get rid of green water using a xP2 filter ?

WATER IS GREEN

A: Algae control largely depends on water quality in the aquarium and the amount of light htting the water. You can use a product such as Algae Fix or Algae Destroyer and this will safely kill the algae. Use only as directed. If you want to find out and fix what is causing the algae to grown you will need to dig deeper. Follow
these steps:

  • Measure water for nitrate. You want 0 if possible

  • Use Nitrazorb and or Phoszorb in the XP2 if you have a freshwater setup.

  • If you are running your lights more than 8 hours a day stop it.

  • Don't overfeed your fish, once a day is fine

  • Don't overload tank with too many fish

  • Use a separate aerator to infuse more oxygen

  • Add an undergravel biological filter such as the Rena UG Filter

  • Add live plants to the tank.

For algae to grow you need light and food. Following the steps above reduce the amount of food available and make it harder for the algae spores to bloom.
