What type of filter media should I be using?

I have a 125 gallon freshwater aquarium with the XP4 filtering it. I've had it up and running a couple of months now. It's definetely time to clean it. I've been shopping around for filter media and there is so much available for the XP models that I don't know what I need. It appears that some of the media is a "2 in one", such as bio chemzorb. I would assume if I used that perticular media then I wouldn't need to use activated carbon. I've read the uses of the types of filter media, mechanical, chemical, and biological, but it seems like everything sounds nearly the same. They all promote clean clear water, remove odors, remove pollutants. I would prefer not to buy every type of filter media available for the XP and stuff them all into my cartridges. I would like to know a good combo of each type of media that I need to use and why? By the way, the aquarium has yet to be crystal clear and particles are always floating around making it look cloudy. Currently I have the microfiltration+, bio chemstars, bio chem zorb, filstar foam 20 and 30, nitra zorb, super activated carbon, and zeolite all crammed in my cannister. Shouldn't I have clear water with all this? Do I have too much? Also, I noticed that some of the packages of media I've bought seem to not have a grasp on the order to place the media in the cannister. I've seen mechanical at bottom, bio in the middle and chemical in top cartridges and in other diagrams I've seen mechanical in the bottom, chemical in the middle, and bio on top. All of which were Rena packages showing these diagrams. What is the proper order of the media? The cannister filter appears to be working properly so I'm sure I have it set up properly. It has a nice strong flow and is very quiet, but, so far two months and nothing but cloudy water with particles floating everywhere. Guidance? Suggestions?

A: You have a lot of good questions but the best place to direct them is to the company that sold you the filter since they are more familiar with your setup. If you purchased from someone that doesn't provide service after the sale then you will have to contact the manufacturer, Mars Fishcare directly with your questions. This is the information that came with your filter. Also, by posting this
question on the PlanetRena site you may get someone else that has
a similar filter setup that can offer some advice. Hopefully, you'll also read through the other
Q&A's under setup and performance for ideas and information on this subject.
