Why do I have air inside my filter, an inch below the lid?

by Lilian
(Fargo, ND)

I have had this filter for about a year now and just last month noticed that air is inside the filter. This never used to be the case. I have checked my hoses and everything seems to be working fine and in good shape. The water level in the canister is now 1 inch below the lid and I have noticed that the pressure of the water circulating is much lower. What could be the reason why I am suddenly getting air in my filter?

A: There is a lot of information regarding air leaks already posted in the Q&A section of the web site. I would guess you have an air leak someplace on the intake side. Any place on the intake side above the water line can cause this and it is not always visible. Here are some links to those sections that contain information about air leaks.
