why would the filter run for a couple hours then quit?

by Alan
(Denver)

The Rena filter runs for a couple hours then quits filtering. We flip the latch on top by the intake and outtake tubes and it runs for a while more.
We have cleaned the filters and it then works for a couple hours and quits.

A: Your Rena Filstar external canister filter has either a priming/flow issue or defective thermal overload switch. Each pump has a thermal overload switch built into the pump. This is a safety feature that prevents the pump from overheating to the point it could cause a fire. If the item is still under warranty you should contact the manufacturer, Mars Fishcare about the issue. If you want to do a little more work before calling just take
a look at the links below for info and help.
