Would you ever recommend using a water safe silicone grease on all of the gaskets & o-rings?

I have an Eheim II Pro, XP2 & an XP3. All of the rubber gaskets & o-rings perodically get a coating of Danco's Stem Repair water safe silicone grease.
I also keep a spare repair pack of Rena gaskets & rings, which I believe I can prolong their shelf life with the application of this water safe silicone grease. Is there an opinion about this that you could share?

A: I agree with everything you say about the lubricant. It will extend the life of the seals. About the only thing we don't recommend, except in an emergency, is the use of petroleum based products like Vaseline. This seems to soften the seals causing them to wear out sooner. You can find the seal / gasket kit at Planet
