XP1 - filtraition media question

by Fran
(NJ)

When I first got this filter in the beginning of the year, I used the 30 ppi and micro-filtration pad that came with it. Somehow, after reading this website, I now use just 30 ppi and 20 ppi foam. IS this okay to use with 2 Painter Turtles in a 30 gallon tank.(aprox), only filled 1/2 way.

A: Your water quality is the only way to find out if your system is working and is "OK". Every tank is different so unless you measure your water quality including ammonia, nitrates, water clariity, etc you won't know for sure if your setup is effective. You can find very inexpesive and easy to use test kits in our store. In general, the flow works best with 20 PPI on the bottom, 30 PPI next and if you want to put BioChem Zorb or Carbon on top that works well. You should experiment with using the Micro Filter. Some hobbyist use in amphibian setups and some don't.
