xp3 motor on the underside there is a small black plug that came out where does it go.

by Rav
(canada)

Just bought a new xp3 canister and was taking the motor off and I noticed a small black plug popped off the bottom of motor which hole does it go back in.
A: If the unit is new you need to contact the manufacturer, Mars Fishcare. The plug is part of the air escape system used when starting or restarting the system.

Same problem with XP3 and XP2
by: Stephen

I have an XP3 and XP2, both several years old, and on both of them the round black plug keeps coming out of the filter head. Once it is out, the filter just seems to recirculated the water in the filter, and doesn't pump from/into the tank at all.

Any ideas on why this plug keeps popping out, and how to keep it in place? I'm about to wrap them in some teflon tape, but felt it would be best to check here first. Thanks!

Editor: please view the videos at Planet Rena if you haven't done that already. The plug allows air to escape when you are restarting the filter. If it comes out it will cause problems with water bypassing the filter media. You could try and wrap teflon tape (plumbers's tape) on the edge but make sure you push the plug all the way in or you will shut
of the escape of air which casues an air lock and affects priming.
